LM118/LM218/LM318
Operational Amplifiers

General Description

The LM118 series are precision high speed operational amplifiers
designed for applications requiring wide bandwidth
and high slew rate. They feature a factor of ten increase in
speed over general purpose devices without sacrificing DC
performance.
The LM118 series has internal unity gain frequency compensation.
This considerably simplifies its application since no
external components are necessary for operation. However,
unlike most internally compensated amplifiers, external frequency
compensation may be added for optimum performance.
For inverting applications, feedforward compensation
will boost the slew rate to over 150V/μs and almost
double the bandwidth. Overcompensation can be used with
the amplifier for greater stability when maximum bandwidth
is not needed. Further, a single capacitor can be added to
reduce the 0.1% settling time to under 1 μs.
The high speed and fast settling time of these op amps make
them useful in A/D converters, oscillators, active filters,

LM1876 Overture™ Audio Power Amplifier Series
Dual 20W Audio Power Amplifier with Mute and Standby
Modes

General Description

The LM1876 is a stereo audio amplifier capable of delivering
typically 20W per channel of continuous average output
power into a 4Ω or 8Ω load with less than 0.1% THD+N.

LM185-1.2/LM285-1.2/LM385-1.2
Micropower Voltage Reference Diode

General Description

The LM185-1.2/LM285-1.2/LM385-1.2 are micropower 2-terminal
band-gap voltage regulator diodes. Operating over a
10μA to 20mA current range, they feature exceptionally low
dynamic impedance and good temperature stability. On-chip
trimming is used to provide tight voltage tolerance. Since the

Careful design of the LM185-1.2 has made the device exceptionally
tolerant of capacitive loading, making it easy to use in
almost any reference application. The wide dynamic operating
range allows its use with widely varying supplies with
excellent regulation.
The extremely low power drain of the LM185-1.2 makes it
useful for micropower circuitry. This voltage reference can be
used to make portable meters, regulators or general purpose
analog circuitry with battery life approaching shelf life.
Further, the wide operating current allows it to replace older
references with a tighter tolerance part.

The LM185-1.2 is rated for operation over a −55°C to 125°C
temperature range while the LM285-1.2 is rated −40°C to 85°
C and the LM385-1.2 0°C to 70°C. The LM185-1.2/LM285-1.2
are available in a hermetic TO-46 package and the

LF198/LF298/LF398, LF198A/LF398A Monolithic Sample-and-Hold Circuits

LF198/LF298/LF398, LF198A/LF398A
Monolithic Sample-and-Hold Circuits

General Description

The LF198/LF298/LF398 are monolithic sample-and-hold
circuits which utilize BI-FET technology to obtain ultra-high
dc accuracy with fast acquisition of signal and low droop
rate. Operating as a unity gain follower, dc gain accuracy is
0.002% typical and acquisition time is as low as 6 μs to
0.01%. A bipolar input stage is used to achieve low offset
voltage and wide bandwidth. Input offset adjust is accomplished
with a single pin, and does not degrade input offset
drift. The wide bandwidth allows the LF198 to be included inside
the feedback loop of 1 MHz op amps without having stability
problems. Input impedance of 1010W allows high
source impedances to be used without degrading accuracy.
P-channel junction FET’s are combined with bipolar devices
in the output amplifier to give droop rates as low as 5 mV/min
with a 1 μF hold capacitor. The JFET’s have much lower
noise than MOS devices used in previous designs and do
not exhibit high temperature instabilities. The overall design
guarantees no feed-through from input to output in the hold
mode, even for input signals equal to the supply voltages.

Features
n Operates from ±5V to ±18V supplies
n Less than 10 μs acquisition time
n TTL, PMOS, CMOS compatible logic input
n 0.5 mV typical hold step at Ch = 0.01 μF
n Low input offset
n 0.002% gain accuracy
n Low output noise in hold mode
n Input characteristics do not change during hold mode
n High supply rejection ratio in sample or hold
n Wide bandwidth
n Space qualified, JM38510
Logic inputs on the LF198 are fully differential with low input
current, allowing direct connection to TTL, PMOS, and
CMOS. Differential threshold is 1.4V. The LF198 will operate
from ±5V to ±18V supplies.
An “A” version is available with tightened electrical
specifications.

voltage.
Application areas include limit comparators, simple analog to
digital converters; pulse, squarewave and time delay generators;
wide range VCO; MOS clock timers; multivibrators
and high voltage digital logic gates. The LM139 series was

description/ordering information
The L293 and L293D are quadruple high-current
half-H drivers. The L293 is designed to provide
bidirectional drive currents of up to 1 A at voltages
from 4.5 V to 36 V. The L293D is designed to
provide bidirectional drive currents of up to
600-mA at voltages from 4.5 V to 36 V. Both
devices are designed to drive inductive loads such
as relays, solenoids, dc and bipolar stepping
motors, as well as other high-current/high-voltage
loads in positive-supply applications.
All inputs are TTL compatible. Each output is a
complete totem-pole drive circuit, with a
Darlington transistor sink and a pseudo-
Darlington source. Drivers are enabled in pairs, with drivers 1 and 2 enabled by 1,2EN and drivers 3 and 4
enabled by 3,4EN. When an enable input is high, the associated drivers are enabled, and their outputs are active
and in phase with their inputs. When the enable input is low, those drivers are disabled, and their outputs are
off and in the high-impedance state. With the proper data inputs, each pair of drivers forms a full-H (or bridge)
reversible drive suitable for solenoid or motor applications.

LM6132,LM6134

Dual and Quad Low Power 10 MHz Rail-to-Rail I/O
Operational Amplifiers

General Description

The LM6132/34 provides new levels of speed vs. power
performance in applications where low voltage supplies or
power limitations previously made compromise necessary.
With only 360 μA/amp supply current, the 10 MHz gainbandwidth
of this device supports new portable applications
where higher power devices unacceptably drain battery life.
The LM6132/34 can be driven by voltages that exceed both
power supply rails, thus eliminating concerns over exceeding
the common-mode voltage range. The rail-to-rail output
swing capability provides the maximum possible dynamic
range at the output. This is particularly important when operating
on low supply voltages. The LM6132/34 can also
drive large capacitive loads without oscillating.
Operating on supplies from 2.7V to over 24V, the LM6132/34
is excellent for a very wide range of applications, from battery
operated systems with large bandwidth requirements to
high speed instrumentation.

SIMPLE SWITCHER®® High Efficiency 3A Step-Down
Voltage Regulator

General Description
The LM2676 series of regulators are monolithic integrated
circuits which provide all of the active functions for a stepdown
(buck) switching regulator capable of driving up to 3A
loads with excellent line and load regulation characteristics.
High efficiency (>90%) is obtained through the use of a low
ON-resistance DMOS power switch. The series consists of
fixed output voltages of 3.3V, 5V and 12V and an adjustable
output version.
The SIMPLE SWITCHER concept provides for a complete
design using a minimum number of external components. A
high fixed frequency oscillator (260KHz) allows the use of
physically smaller sized components. A family of standard inductors
for use with the LM2676 are available from several
manufacturers to greatly simplify the design process.
The LM2676 series also has built in thermal shutdown, current
limiting and an ON/OFF control input that can power
down the regulator to a low 50μA quiescent current standby
condition. The output voltage is guaranteed to a ±2% tolerance.
The clock frequency is controlled to within a ±11%
tolerance.

Features

■ Efficiency up to 94%

LM158,LM258,LM2904,LM358

Low Power Dual Operational Amplifiers

General Description

The LM158 series consists of two independent, high gain,
internally frequency compensated operational amplifiers
which were designed specifically to operate from a single
power supply over a wide range of voltages. Operation from
split power supplies is also possible and the low power
supply current drain is independent of the magnitude of the
power supply voltage.

Application areas include transducer amplifiers, dc gain
blocks and all the conventional op amp circuits which now
can be more easily implemented in single power supply
systems. For example, the LM158 series can be directly
operated off of the standard +5V power supply voltage which
is used in digital systems and will easily provide the required
interface electronics without requiring the additional ±15V
power supplies.
The LM358 and LM2904 are available in a chip sized package
(8-Bump micro SMD) using National’s micro SMD package
technology.

Unique Characteristics

n In the linear mode the input common-mode voltage
range includes ground and the output voltage can also
swing to ground, even though operated from only a
single power supply voltage.
n The unity gain cross frequency is temperature
compensated.
n The input bias current is also temperature compensated.

Advantages
n Two internally compensated op amps
n Eliminates need for dual supplies
n Allows direct sensing near GND and VOUT also goes to
GND
